Richard Octaviano Kogima is a Brazilian conductor, pianist, and composer based in Switzerland. Born in São Paulo, he has performed throughout Brazil, the USA, and Europe, in prestigious venues such as the Tonhalle in Zurich, the DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen, the Salle Cortot in Paris, and the Sala São Paulo.

Upcoming highlights include Debuts with the Musikkollegium Winterthur and the Filarmonica Toscanini, two South America Tours, where he will conduct the OSUSP Orchestra in Brazil and the Orquestra de Concepción in Chile and the release of his Debut Recording with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie and soloist Teo Gheorghiu. In the season 2026/2027, he will also have his inaugural concerts as Principal Conductor of the ZHdK Sinfonietta and and Zürcher Orchester Sozietät. Richard has conducted orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich, Danish National Symphony, Gstaad Festival Orchestra and Sinfonica di Milano, having been selected for top conducting academies and competitions such as the Malko Competition, Gstaad, Tonhalle and Järvi Academies.

Richard has recently been awarded at the Toscanini Conducting Competition, where he received the 2nd Prize and the Orchestra Choice Prize. Also a laureate of several international piano competitions, he has received the “Nelson Freire Award” at the Geza Anda Piano Competition.

He began his conducting career in 2022 at the invitation of Herbert Blomstedt, who, along with Paavo Järvi, had a strong influence on his artistic development. He teaches at the Zurich University of the Arts, where he completed his master’s degree in piano and conducting.
